About City Council
The City of Coburg operates under the City Charter. The City of Coburg has seven elected officials; the Mayor serves a two-year term and six Councilors that serve four-year terms. The City Council serves as the legislative branch of the City. City Council is responsible for setting policy, adopting the annual budget, adopting laws, determining the services the City provides and the funding levels for those services, and appointing citizens to boards and committees.
Coburg has a council-manager form of government. Policies are set by Mayor and Council, who are elected by the people. Policies are carried out by the City Administrator, who is appointed by the Mayor and Council. The Mayor and Council decide what is to be done; the City Administrator, operating through the entire city staff, does it.
About Public Participation
We need you! The City Council and staff welcome citizen involvement and participation at City Council meetings. Council meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
How you can officially address the Mayor and Council:
- Sign-up for public testimony before a meeting. Upon being recognized, state your name and address before proceeding into your subject matter. Speakers are limited to three-minute presentations.
- Submit written comments to the Mayor and Council (via City Recorder) prior to the meeting.
- Contact the City Recorder at City Hall.
- If questions are raised during public testimony, Council or the Mayor will direct staff to respond (or not) after the meeting.
